Free Community Workshop on Property Taxes & Estate Planning

The Orleans Parish Assessor's Office and Southeast Louisiana Legal Services invite the public to a free information session designed to help homeowners protect their property and their legacy. This event, made possible with support from Red River Bank and United Way of Southeast Louisiana, will take place on July 15, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the UWSELA Prosperity Center, New Orleans East Campus (8324 Morrison Road, New Orleans, LA 70126).


Attendees will learn about a wide range of topics important to homeowners, including home repair programs, fortified roof grants, homestead exemptions and how to apply, property taxes, how to appeal a property assessment, millages, and special assessments. The session will also cover estate planning essentials, including the importance of successions and the basics of writing a will.
In addition to the educational presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to apply for free legal assistance on-site. As an added incentive, two $50 gift cards will be raffled off to attendees during the event.
