MHAS

The Mental Health Advocacy Service (MHAS) is a Louisiana state agency that provides legal representation and advocacy to individuals with mental illness or developmental disabilities. MHAS works to protect the legal rights of these individuals in areas such as civil commitment, forensic evaluations, and treatment facility rights.

Services & Eligibility

MHAS serves individuals in Louisiana who are involved in civil or forensic mental health proceedings, including those facing involuntary commitment, those in state mental health facilities, or individuals with developmental disabilities needing advocacy. Eligibility depends on the type of legal issue and the individual’s mental health or disability status.
